JAWA BS4 Vs BS6

In the year 2018, The Mahindra subsidiary classic legends relaunched the brand Jawa motorcycles in India. The comeback of the yesteryear legend made both the old and the young generation excited and the excitement reflected in the number of bookings. The Jawa Motorcycles India started the delivery of bikes in 2019 mentioning the engines are BS6 ready. But they were not BS6 compliant. They were BS4 compliant. I own one of those and the documents prove the same. Now the Jawa Motorcycles has launched the models with BS6 compliant engines. The external numbers of the vehicle have not undergone any changes however the power figures are not the same anymore.

Both the BS4 and BS6 engines are powered by 293 cc, single cylinder liquid cooled DOHC engine coupled with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The BS4 engine generates 27 BHP max power and 28 Nm max torque whereas the BS6 variant generates 26.15 BHP max power and 27.05 Nm max torque. The new BS6 engine is the country’s first cross port technology aided the use of the twin exhausts. The new engine made the vehicle 2 kg heavier than the BS4 variant as well.

We have to wait for few more days to know the impact on the performance and mileage due to the decrease in power figures and increase in the weight of the vehicle. I will be updating the comparison here once I get my hands on the new BS6 powered JAWA.
